We had an opportunity to attend an event where an agreement was signed which makes it possible for Syrian youth to receive scholarships for higher education in Canadian Universities. This was initiated by the student group, International Students Overcoming War (ISOW) Laurier and was an exciting reminder of how one amazing idea can spark change!
On April 20, Jusoor´s (non-governmental organization) Canadian representative, Leen Al Zaibak and Laurier President and Vice-Chancellor, Max Blouw were present when Wilfrid Laurier University made this auspicious signing. So far WLU is the first Canadian University to sign such an agreement.
We were amazed by the signing as students, professors, university faculty staff and organizational staff had gathered together to celebrate their completed project. It’s a great way, we believe, to create collaboration in investing in students’ education for the future development of our and their countries. Hopefully, more students will receive scholarships around the world!
