Hello, this is Idun, the Norwegian girl on track. I'm currently in Quito, Ecuador where I'm working with Colombian Refugee Project and will spend my month taking pictures for them and hopefully get a better understanding of the refugee situation here in Ecuador and the armed conflict in Colombia. I've been here for almost a week and so far I've been able to start working with the project, gotten to know the area I'm living in a little better, spent some time with my host family and have finally started to adjust to this new place.
I haven't been able to explore much of the city yet, but what I've seen so far I've liked. Quito is surrounded by mountains and when I saw this the day I flew in, I immediately knew I would like it here.
My second day with the ministry I was able to visit a refugee family in their home, and they let me take pictures and hear some of their story. It was such a nice experience and I felt very welcomed. Today I was able to tag a long while a couple of ladies from the project went out to shop for their monthly food program and helped out with measuring and putting rice, beans and lentils into smaller bags.
All in all, I've enjoyed my time here so far and have high hopes for the rest of the month.
